View Full Version : I messed up!

I have a program on my computer that runs compressed folders (MAME) without having to extract them, so when I first chose "open with" and I selected mame I didn't notice the little checked box that read "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" so now whenever I get a compressed file, if I right click it, it doesn't give me the option anymore to extract it and if I double click my mame program tries to open it! And also now instead of looking like a compressed file (folder with a zipper on it) it looks like the mame program.
So my question is, how do I select to use the unzip program again because I'm not sure where it is when I search for it.
Any help would be greatly GREATLY appreciated!!!

There are a number of file association fixes on this page (http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/).

Click on the link "zip" to download a .reg file. Once you have it downloaded, right click it, left click Merge.

If you want to see the registry changes it makes, right click/Open with/Notepad.

Cool thanks it worked!
Now that I've done that is there a certain place I should put it?

If you've merged it, it's done its job. Delete it or keep it around in case the zip file association gets messed up again, in which case you can use it again to restore the association.
