Hi, I have been importing my Charter Web Mail to Outlook Express Version 6 for about a year and a 1/2. Recently the mail stopped downloading. The error message I receive is "A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: 'Charter17', Server: 'pop.charter.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19". Any suggestions why this is happening. My operating system is Windows XP. Thanks

The main reason that happens is either you aren't connected to the internet or the account info you filled out in OE to get the mail has changed. Try deleting the account in OE and then creating the account again to refresh the info. Make sure that Charter hasn't changed any of their info too like the pop3 info or the SMTP info that you have to put into OE. They might have changed it.

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately I have tried several times to delete and reload the account information without success.
Before I made the post here I contacted Charter who also said to delete and re-add the account information. They said that if I still had problems I should contact Microsoft.
Do you think re-loading Internet Explorer 7 would cure the problem? If yes, should I backup my data (messages & address book) first. Do you know where I would find instructions to do the backup?
Thank you

Just make sure what you type into the POP3 and SMTP are exact and when it asks about a server password it isn't the same as your password for your account. I thought it was when I installed mine the first time and I filled in the password..but it wouldn't connect to the server getting the same error message as what you are getting. So if you have that filled in you have to delete the account again and do it without checking that box and using a password. YOU can also temporarily disable your firewall just to see if it is stopping the connection.
Here is a Microsoft article about the same situation that you are having. READ THIS!
