hi. my crop tool is acting weird. for one thing the rectangle now has rounded corners. for another, it doesn't crop to where the rectangle is bordering the image. thanks, boyd.

Reset your preferences. Hold down command-option-shift (PC: Ctrl-Alt-Shift) when you launch Photoshop.

Uhmm.. there's nothing to change in the preference window.

If you hold down the keys and then launch Photoshop, you should be presented with a dialog box that asks if you want to reset the Photoshop settings (Yes) (No).

If this isn't working for you, I don't know why. What you want to do is remove (delete) the Photoshop preference files. I can't tell you where the preferences are on a PC I've always suggested the shortcut which has always worked. And I'm on a Mac.

If you use a desktop shortcut to open Photoshop it won't work. You'll open the Properties file for the shortcut not the program.

Press down the keys Buzz says and hold them. Go to Start, All Programs and open Photoshop from there. The small window that also opens will only have two choices: Delete preference file: Yes or No.

i think i'm losing it. i went to programs and photoshop isn't listed under adobe! it's always been there. when i place my cursor on adobe i have something called, "extend script" instead of photoshop! what the *(&^%%$!@? is happening to my computer? thanks, boyd.

To reset the preference file you could try to open Photoshop using the Photoshop exe in C:\Program Files\Adobe\... instead of in All Programs.

I don't know why Photoshop isn't listed in All Programs under Adobe. Maybe it was replaced with a script or dragged off the list and dropped on your desktop as a shortcut. (Just guessing.) You might be seeing the Extendscript Toolkit (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3205) which could have been there all along. Buzz or someone at the Adobe Forums is your best bet for more info on Photoshop Extendscript.

Is it possible that you're trying to use a Select tool instead of the Crop tool? I don't know of any graphics program that has a tool option to round the corners or "feather" the crop selection. If you're an experienced user, sorry for asking, but I've been wondering.

To reset the Rectangular Marquee Tool to a standard rectangle, change the Feather to "0 px".
