Start up Internet explorer Invalid page fault @ module MFC42.dll

When I try to access the control panel from the start button:
invalid page fault @ Kernell32.dll

Internet explorer eventually shuts down.
Then my desk top background changes color to white then I need to restore it back to original
I run Norton Antivirus Corp edition which didn't find anything. I have run scan disck and defrag. I run Windows 98

I also get an unknown error occured while accessing
C:/Program files\squire\376554\p.dat

Any help????

Let's have a look at your startups, Go here and download, unzip and run StartupList. It will create a log file, copy the log and paste it in a reply.

As tb525 isn't on line right now, allow me to butt in:

You have the SQwire version of Xupiter

It's a known cause of Iexplore/Mfc42.dll page faults.

Download Spybot - Search & Destroy

It looks for spyware, but also targets dialers, keyloggers, and other nasties, and it's freeware.
It ought to deal with all versions of Xupiter without a prob.

After installing, press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.

Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds.

NOTE: SSD will sometimes not be able to remove all active components in the first 'run'.
In that case you will get a dialog asking you to run SSD at next start.
Click yes and reboot.
Subsequently SSD will come up before the system puts these components 'in use', and it will then be able to 'fix' the rest.

Cheers,

You're welcome.

About MS Outlook, sorry, I'm not running it myself.

You could try the MS Knowledge Base
