My wifes business computer is a Compaq Presario 5020 and we have a strange problem. A while back ago, I purchased a Samtron 17 monitor for her to use, loaded the drivers, and then the computer would not shut down or boot. (Received the dreaded exemption blue screen) What I do now, is to shut the computer off and reboot using the Compaq monitor, then switch over to the Samtron, which then displays great. I know the regestry still contains references to Samtron, and as of now, I've let things stand as they are. I have downloaded jv16 on her computer and will begin to use it after getting some advice here. I know I need to clean up her computer, remove dead files and so forth, but need to check in here in this forum first, since this computer is so critical to us. I've had great success with this forum-most recently on the Windows95, where I was instructed how to partition and format a new harddrive and install Win95. Right now, we continue to reboot the computer as needed, by switching to the compaq monitor. My hope is to remove this added step and get the monitor working correctly in shut down and start up modes. Thanks for any advice.

Right Click on "My Computer" then go to Properties, then click on the Device Manager TAB.
Click on the + sign next to Display or Monitor I forget which one it is titled. What does the entry say: Samtron or Compaq? If it says Compaq, then the Samtron drives are not loading.
With the Samtron hoked up, click on the properties tab of the Compaq entry, then go to the DRIVER TAB, then hit Change Driver.
Lead it to the Samtron Drivers you have, probably good to put these on a floppy then lead it to the floppy. It will then install the Samtron.
Reboot

Murf, should I load the drivers and then shut the computer off with the old monitor, then restart with the new monitor hooked up. The computer will not shut down with the Samtron monitor hooked up-I get the blue exceptions screen. Figuring plug and play will see the Samtron monitor (I hope) when I start up and then search for the drivers. Last time I loaded the drivers some time ago, I still couldn't get the computer to boot, but I can't say for certain if I loaded them corrrectly. So if I figure this right, go to device manager and update monitor drivers even though the manager list the compaq monitor, shut down the computer with the compaq monitor and then start up with the Samtron monitor.
