Can I use a different brand of card while having a complete different brand Router. I'm not sure if I wasted money or not. I may have to return one of these. Anyway I bought the d-link notebook card like at the beginning of the year. Just today I received my new Belkin Wireless G Router. I'm not very smart on this wireless stuff yet. At first I thought that as long as I had a wireless router that I would be able to take my laptop anywhere in my apartment and have a wireless connection until I saw that I need a notebook card as well or do I? Anyway I just finished installing this Router and now i'm figuring its only wireless if I have another computer in my place which I don't have. I'm wondering if my d-link notebook card would work as long as I have a wireless router no matter what the brand is?

Hi joetj,
You should be able to use your dlink card with your belkin router. However, if the dlink card is a 802.11B (wireless b), then you will just get the 802.11b connection speed (11Mbps).

does that speed suck? I'll install the card and see how everything works out.

We're talking 11 Mpbs, which isn't bad for internet access as most people's connections are 5 Mpbs or less.
