Hi,
1st, i have searched through this and many other forums/help sites to find a soloution. Tried numerous suggestions but still no joy.
Setup(s) :-
Pc 1 . Windows XP home + all updates, NTL cable 20 Mb internet, Dynamode BR-6004 W-G1 (802.11g) Router ( no floppy drive! )

Pc 2. Windows 2000 Pro + all updates, 54M (802.11g) Wireless Network Adapter (USB) (no floppy drive)

Internet connection sharing is established and working fine ( signal strength @ around 87% )

I am trying to setup home networking to share files and printer etc. I can get to the part where it says that i need to start the networking wizzard on Pc 2, where it gives me several options, create a floppy disk, use windows xp disk etc to start the wizzard., neither Pc has a floppy drive so ... Using windows XP cd, other tasks, "setup a home or small network..." then get a warning box to the effect "network setup wizzard only supports win 98 win 98 SE Win ME and winXP. use 2000 help files to...."
So, off to the help files and following there instructions i can get to the setup untill it ask for a connection type, none of which are wireless, USB

Does anyone have a COMPLETE IDIOTS GUIDE that will allow me to setup what should be a simple 2pc home network for file and printer sharing . or should i just make the wife do it her self

should i just make the wife do it her self Only if you like sleeping in the back yard with rover. :D

I have a 3 pc network running win2000 on two and xp on one. I tried the xp wizard, and ended up setting the thing up manually.

on the windows 2000 pc:
Open the network id page (right click my computer/properties/network id)
Click the properties button. make note of the computer name (or change it to something easy to spell );). Make note of the workgroup name (it too can be changed, but the workgroup name has to match on both pc's. So if you change it here, you'll have to change the other pc to match.)
Once that's done:
Open the properties page for the network connection,(right click the networking icon in the system tray, click status, then properties) make sure the following are listed and ticked:
Client for microsoft networks
File and print sharing for microsoft networks
tcp/ip protocol
if not click the install button and install them.

Open the tcp/ip properties page, if the router is set as a DHCP server, then leave these settings on automatic. If not you'll need to enter the information manually.

Now, do the same thing on the xp pc. (note: If you're using the xp firewall you may need to adjust it's settings.)

Now set up your shares, right click on a file/folder/drive and select sharing (keep in mind that sharing is inherited by default. (for example if you share a drive then all the folders and files are shared, if you share a folder, everything in that folder is shared including subfolders). set permissions on the share and click apply.
Printers follow the same basic rules as file sharing. You need to share the printer from the pc it's connected to, and then just click the add printer icon on the other pc and select network printer and follow the prompts.

Now that I've thoroughly confused you check out the MS how-to: file & print sharing in windows (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=87c0a6db-aef8-4bef-925e-7ac9be791028&displaylang=en)
