Ubuntu Switching (need response before tuesday)
This what you may have seen last time.
http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/...highlight=djoe Now I've decided to give Ubuntu a chance, unless your willing to help me scrap Windows XP Activation. Here's the problem though, when I downloaded Ubuntu versions 6.06 and 7.04 it gives an error for file "OpenCD" it gives the error "Command file ("C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Desktop\FOLDER\disctree\en\firefox_install.Ich") not found." Now I'm wondering is there a way to Install Ubuntu OS from Windows or do I have to restart with a CD and go through the re-partition, re-format and re-install process? If Ubuntu does well, I'm waving Windows goodbye. I will give you my own personal seal of approvel that Bill Gates and MS will be totally invalid on my pc for GOOD! Welcome Mark Shuttleworth and Ubuntu! Last edited by DJoe; September 1st, 2007 at 06:56 PM. |

I cannot legally help you bypass the Windows Activation. Sorry.
You cannot install Ubuntu from Windows. You have to boot the Ubuntu installation cd and install from that. The installation cd can be download as an iso cd image, or you can order a free copy from the Ubuntu website. (www.ubuntu.com)

Thanks I kind of thought I'd have to boot from CD.
Well then s***w Microsoft, I'm going with Ubuntu. I hope Google or Ubuntu makes MS sink. |

Urrg, LOL. Ok I tryed burning UbuntU 6.06 and booted the pc and the boot was set for CD-ROM, but the system ignored that it was a boot CD.
I ordered a UbuntU CD in May and never showed up in the mail. When the software is sent does it have a logo. If not, mom may have mistaken it for something else. I wonder if it takes more time to get shipped to smaller towns. Our town does show up on the map. Last edited by DJoe; September 2nd, 2007 at 02:05 AM. |

Did you just burn the iso to the disc as data, or did you burn it as a "cd image" file? There is a distinct difference.
As for the shipit, I live in a small town and received the discs I ordered within two weeks. If you did not receive them, you might try reordering.

ahh, and that was a CD-R, that sucks, ok so, it has to be a iso image format, I did burn it as a data format. Thats one thing I like about floppys, is that they aren't picky about the format. I thought data and ISO image was the same thing, DOH.

I have made this mistake a few times.. When you download the system it arrives as an ISO. Make sure that when you want the correct read to select "burn c/d image" and not make data disc. hope this helps. :-)

Thanks for that program Mishy, looks like they have support for HD-DVD and BluRay, besides the usual standards.
Yeah, I wish they would have made a way so, Windows Writer would know that its an ISO. Read the frick'n format you dumb Windows, LOL. |

Cool, it now works, just don't know how to make new connection. My connection requires new connection. Although Dad's service uses the Local Area Network and didn't want to connect on UbuntU to the internet.
What I'm saying is that in Graphics Mode (running off CD) it didn't connect to the internet. Do I have to actually re-partition, re-format and re-install to get the internet working? If someone is experenced with UbuntU please help. Last edited by DJoe; September 12th, 2007 at 01:06 AM. |
