Troubles logging into certain sites

I am having trouble in Internet Explorer version 7.0.5730.11 with logging into certain sites like facebook, or even just trying to log into AOL to check my email. When this occurs, it just goes to the search function like the page doesn't exist. This also has occurred with some websites like where I do my online banking. The computer suggests I have have connection problems. Can any one help me?

We need a lot more info to be able to help you. What Operating System do you have? Have you downloaded anything recently? When did this happen? Do you get any error messages and what are they? What browser are you using? Are you getting any popups and what are they?

Ok. I have Windows XP, only thing I've downloaded is Aol Instant Messenger 5.9. This happened a while back. I have an error message when the computer boots up with a blue screen that says "STOP" followed by some letters and numbers in parenthesis. I asked the Geek Squad at Best Buy and they suggested that I get a system recovery disk for my computer (HP zv6131us model) and that will reset the system. Will this also solve the problem I have?
