I have three computers connected to a home network through a D-Link wireless router, however all the machines are connected through an ethernet cable to the router, and router connected to the DSL modem.

Working fine for weeks then Network Magic announced an intruder. When I checked the network I found two intruders, one identified as a printer (YVONNE) the other one as a XP Pro workstation. I had Network Magic put them offline, but they are still shown as being on the network. At the time only one computer was switched on. Of the threee computers only one has a wireless card, and it was switched off power, and is not yet configured for wireless.

I have now diconnected the router and my main machine is connected directly to the modem. The intruders are still showing.

What is going on?. How can I get rid of the intruders?. Has my main computer, the one that was working at the time of the intrusion been compromised, and what can I do about it?.

I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.

Your computers haven't likely been compromised, someone has likely just connected to the wireless network provided by your router. Just go into the admin panels and disable the wireless network since you don't use it and delete the intruders from your Network Magic (it keeps track of computers even if you have disallowed them access).

Thank you much for your comment. I intend to run
my laptop on the wireless connection so that I can move it around the house. I did get into the router and configured the laptop for wireless, and encrypted using WPA-2.(Had previous problems with router and D_Link changed its address which like a fool I did not make a note of) Called D-Link and got it straightened that out hence been able to encryot it.
Thanks for your help.
