About 10 days.
QUOTE.

YES,
The main IP IS A SINGLE SETTING to your adsl/modem/ tv box to the cable/phone company,
Gateway computers to the ISP's and the internet, and is the link with your I.D.
And the house address,
and the cable/adsl line,
So changing your ISP ,
Will not change this ip address setting you still use the same line and settings,
Even changing cable/phone comanys do not break this link,
if they use the same cable/PHONE lines and links, [which is about 99% of them]
And the cable/phone company's and the ISP's have to keep records of who they suppied
the IP address's to for about 3 yrs,

Some more information might be useful to better explain IP addresses w/ multiple computers; first, 'how' are these computers networked, specifically is there a router attached between the cable modem and the 'wired' computer?

For example, I am using a Road Runner cable modem attached to a Linksys 'wireless' router, which is wired into my Dell desktop computer - I have an IBM laptop in the den which has a 'wireless' adapter. Road Runner assigns an IP address to my system (which is 'dynamic' using their DHCP server); the Linksys router broadcasts a single IP address to the internet (regardless of the number of computers attached to the home network); the Linksys router 'controls' the home network using mainly NAT & its own DHCP - these protocols will assign each 'home' computer a different but 'internal' IP that is not seen by the internet.

Thus, your computers w/i the home network will have different IPs assigned by the router, while the router is broadcasting a single IP to the internet which is determined by your ISP - if your ISP is using a DHCP, then that address is changeable.

Howdy:

This is very wrong. Your IP address is tied to your ISP. You change ISP's, you also change your IP address as each ISP is assigned a specific range of addresses for them to use.

Even changing cable/phone comanys do not break this link,
if they use the same cable/PHONE lines and links, (which is about 99% of them)

Again, wrong for the same reason given above.

BTW, I have been with the same ISP for the last 8 years or so and they have changed my IP address more times than I can count. To my knowledge, they have assigned me at least three in the past few months.

You can try, but don't count on them doing it.

Odds are, your IP address will be renewed a few times a month as it is.

Why do you want to change it?

if my IP changes regulary, how does a site keep up with u?
there is conflict with my IP in certain chat channels...and i need to talk to my friends in there.

the moderators told me to get a new ip so i could log in.. but not how to do it...
what sucks, as well, is all the computers on this network cant log in now to certain places cause of IP conflict, even tho they each use a different account.

they said i could go to other networks and log in but that doesnt help me when im at home...

whats a easy method to change my IP besides calling them and waiting for it to do it automatically

thanks

if my IP changes regulary, how does a site keep up with u?A website doesn't need to keep up with you. It sends the site to the IP address it gets a request from at the time. Not the IP address that may have accessed it last week. It doesn't store these IP addresses for future use. Websites that "store" data (such as login info or preferences) use browser cookies (small text files with the data), which are not tied to an IP address.

If your purpose is to hide your privacy when surfing the internet, you can simply use some proxy quich switcher to do this job. For example, you can user proxy switcher pro to download a large list of proxy, and auto change your proxy each time you view a new web page.
Tor is always a good choice,it's can hardly be traced, but it's complicate to config.

Hiya,

I agree with the moderator. No Offence but what Senior Member "LIONDAD" has writtten is wrong!!!

IPs are tied to ISPs. IP is a unique ID which is assigned to every computer connected to the internet across the globe. This IP address is unique just like finger prints and no two computers connected to the internet can have the same IP at the same time.

Two types of IPs exist with internet connections:

a) DYNAMIC & b) STATIC

a) Most home users get DYNAMIC IPs with ther DSL/ADSL connections. Dynamic IP means whenever you connect to the interner you get an IP and whenever you disconnect and reconnect next time a new IP is assigned.

b) Static where an ISP keeps a fixed IP for you. this STATIC IP is assigned to your username. For example i registered with RoadRunner and my username is netwizz - in their records netwiz = 85.X.X.X (example). This will never change until i give up RoadRunner Service

Just for your information, I've workd for a major telecom & ISP provider Technical Support in Atlanta. So i know how it works. We allowed a customers request to have his IP changed, if he had a STATIC one - coz a few complained about hackers, spoofers and spying cases.

Thanks & God bless. Long live the forum!!!

great!
thanks for the info.

ill look into using IP spoofers if i run into more troublesome moderators.

Keep in mind that if they keep banning your IP and you keep changing your IP, they will just ban your account, and probably a few IPs in the process (which means anyone else who uses those IPs will be banned too).

i dont get banned enuff for that to happen.
im not rude ( usually ), or a spammer...

i get banned from justin.tv everynow and then for stupid reasons..
and its not by the lifecaster, its usually by some power tripping noob with the ban hammer...

other problem is... when i email the mod or who ever it is to unban me... they dont know how to unban.. its a tricky system with MIRC and the site chat or something i dont know... and they would unban me, but cant...

and yes, if i was in need to be perma banned, its possible, but as i said..
im not that offensive, ever, lol, like alot of troll retards are.
