Hi there to you all!

I now have so much computer experience I am almost embarrassed to ask this question since it seems such a simple problem.

Whenever I open my IE7 browser, it is repeatedlly opening about half screen, set over to the right. I have checked through my tool bar, also gone through my control panel but I really can't find any way to force my browser to open full screen every time. I also run Firefox and Opera and never get this problem with them.

For a period of time I recall getting exactly the same problem with IE6 about 2 years ago then it just seemed to rectify itself without me doing anything.

Of course, I realise there is a button top right of screen to force browser to fill the screen but it is really annoying to have to repeatedly use it.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Don't worry, this is a very well-known problem but very difficult to explain exactly how it happens or to explain precisely what the cure is. It will involve some trial and error. Basically it happens if you have several windows open in IE and close the smaller one last, so IE remembers this.

The cure is something like this. You have opened IE in the small window; click the middle button at the top right of the screen maybe several times until you are sure it is in the "restore down" position; drag all the sides of the window to the edges of the screen; then click the middle "maximise" button and it should increase the size very slightly; then click the "restore down" button and drag the window to the size you normally want it in the smaller size; then click the "maximise" again and it should return to full size. Then remember to close IE when it is full size.

Something like that, anyway.

edit... I've just found this:-
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm#IEMax
which has a simpler cure. However, I found when it happened to me and I tried dragging the window larger that the maximised and "restore down" positions were almost the same, both max size,, so at some stage you have to reset the smaller size in the "restore down" setting. Best of luck.

Thanks a lot Wickham. I downloaded that thing and it seems to work brilliantly!

Yes, the other stuff I had mostly tried but without really getting anywhere.
Thanks again,

Well this is a kinda work around and I am glad it has worked. When I was new to computers and was learning. I did pretty much the same - resizing several times until it always opened full size.

yrs later into softwares, I realized there is a file which stores the last size of the window and location as well. if you edit that file, you never have to try too hard.

since your prob is fixed, I wouldnt go into technicalities, unless you wanna know, i can mail you a step-by-step procedure. its just changing a simple notepad text file.
