Arrow Do applications that work off a flash drive install or put things on your computer

If so, tell me more so I can get my dad off my ass and prove him wrong... because he won't even let me use my flash drive to use my portable firefox.

His IT told him that any programs that run off a flash drive puts stuff on your computer and slows it down. I wanna make sure of this crap.

I am so fracking peed right now. I ****ING HATE IE!!!

I run programs from USB drives all the time with no visible traces left. I suspect some temp files may be deposited on your dad's computer - both in temp folders and the internet cache. Easy to get rid of by the end of the session by using the cleanup utility.

Some programs that run of flash drives (ie portable apps) do use the hard drive for some things. Everything from cache files to temporary registry keys may be used by a particular program, there's no general rule. However Firefox Portable in particular does not put anything on the hard drive. As per its FAQ:

A. No. Firefox Portable has its disk cache disabled. It uses RAM for cache. All your cookies and other data is self-contained on your portable device. At no time is any personal data stored on the local machine, so even if someone tried to find it with an undelete utility, there would be nothing for them to find.
