Hello,
I was working on a pc that is having trouble opening up win word 2000. When I click on any document, it will start to load then pause. Then a window will come up and say something like,"WINWORD IS LOW ON RESOURCES" Then if I hit CTRL ALT DELETE, it will get out of the document, but, then all of the applications will say that windows is low on resources. What do you think? If I take any of the documents and copy it to another pc, any word document runs fine. I suspect sometype of spyware. I have ran spybot and adware. I am going to run more scans. Could the Windows office be corrupted?? The OS is Win Me. Thanks- Ikey |

Deleting the "normal.dot" file almost always fixes the problem.
It's a hidden file so first open any folder (My Documents will do), click on Tools>Folder Options>View tab. Check "Show hidden files and folder" and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files." Okay the warning message, close the Folder Options window. Then, with Word closed, go to Windows search/find (whatever WinME calls it; it's on the Start Menu) and tell it to look for normal.dot (that's .dot, not .doc). Delete all it finds (probably only one). Then see if if a Word document will open as it should.

I've never had to mess with normal.dot but some have recurring problems and have to delete it more than once. I've never read a definitive explanation about why that file get corrupted. At least now you know what to do if Word stops working again.
