The company i work for has just aquired a new unit and we want to set up a wireless network into that building. From where we want to send the signal from to where the new unit is, is about 260+ feet. Can anyone give me some information on what equipment we would need etc.

Many thanks

Lee

A question and a comment:
Question:What are you asking for help with?
Comment: Using wireless as a back bone is not the greatest of ideas.

We currently use both wired and wireless networks in the company. We have have network points in the offices, tool room and despatch but not in the factory. We have a few Wireless Access Points in various locations that allow the computers, robots and printers that don't have a wired connection available to get on the network.

With the new unit we will move our Despatch area, which currently only uses 2 computers and 5 printers. Some of the printers are on a wireless print server. Basically we have one of two choices, run a wired connection across, but we will have to seek permission as it's going across a pubic road or we go wireless.

I want to know what kind of setup we need to send a wireless connection 260+ feet. Something like this: http://www.afar.net/wireless/ethernet-bridge/ then i was thinking a Wireless Hub the other end so we can plug what we need into the network. I know a standard wireless acess point or router is no good as they don't give off a strong enough signal to travel that kind of distance.

A wireless bridge is the best you can do for the setup you are talking about. I would say the bridge you are looking at is a little overboard for the setup you want though. I would look for devices (like the DWL-2100AP) that can act in bridge mode but have detachable antennae so you can use an directional antenna with it. 260ft is not a huge distance to cross for 802.11B/G/N.

Thanks for the info. Like you said, the access point should do the job.
