Hi,

I have literally just bought a new Sony Vaio SZ440 with Vists Premium. It came in the mail Tuesday. I shut it down to go to lunch, and when I tried to boot it back up again well the monitor stays black. I have tried booting in safe mode or to get any type of screen and it wont move. I have tried restarting it, and even removing the battery and killing the power and then restarting it. All that happens is that when i turn it on, the normal lights turn on, and it seems to start normally, but the screen stays black.

Thanks for any help you could give me, it would be far more than Sony does,

Hi mwitte. There are a couple of things you can try but if no luck, you should return it to the store you purchased it from and take advantage of the warranty.

Try this (http://kb.sony-europe.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=37,E=0000000000044511640,K=9250,Sxi=6,Case=obj (6123)) suggestion first.

If that doesnt help, disconnect all external hardware (including PCMCIA card if inserted) and try booting now. Any luck?

Thank you for the suggestion, but I have nothing attached. I got it on Tuesday and I havent had time to even put in a mouse yet. haha, Sony also had me try and restart it without the battery because they thought it might be static build up, but that did not work either...

You are welcome. I still think you should utilize your warranty and get the problem sorted out but if you like I'll transfer your topic to our Hardware Forum. I very much doubt that this is a Vista issue, especially if it came preloaded.

Let me know if you would like your topic transferred.
