ok so i just got my new internet service from Charter communications, and this particular problem has been annoying me for weeks.

ok so my internet doesnt work for about 5 min when i turn on/restart my computer. yes, and this happens EVERYTIME. it is a constant thing... and sometimes out of no where my internet will just stop working for few min.

why is this happening? i check my cable modem and the power, cable, and pc, lights are solid green and the data light is blinking green. i know that this is how its supposed to be so i believe it has nothing to do with my isp... maybe my router? i just recently purchased a d-link ebr-2310.

thx for looking.

oh and btw... i have tried resetting the router, as well as my modem. i have went thru internet connection settings to see if anything was wrong, and from my observations i found nothing wrong. i have also thought of trojan / virus as a possibility and have bought norton internet security / anti-virus 2007 and ran a full scan. only thing i've found was a ByteVerify trojan... it has been removed but the problem is still occuring.

Hardware and software specs of you system would be helpful. Have you tried connecting directly to the modem? if not, do that and see if you still get the same problem.

i have not tried connecting directly to the modem because few other people in the house share the internet, but i will give it a try.

hardware:

3.2e intel cpu
intel D101GGc mobo
corsair xms 1gb 3200 rams
ati x700 vid card
wd raptor and seagate hd.

i am currently running windows xp, have norton internet security / anti virus 2007 installed. oh and i should mention this maybe... before i got my new internet connection i didnt use internet on this computer for about 2 months.

Check the advanced settings on your network card, and check the power saving mode set it to "Constantly awake" if it isn't already. You can also try right clicking the network icon in the system tray and selecting repair.
