Update Linksys

I decided to update the wireless Linksys that I have instead of buying a new one with speedbooster. Does it matter which of the desktops or the laptop that I run the installation on ? I have two wired and two that are wireless.

Also , one of the wireless (brand new Gateway GM5442 will have a Belkin wireless adapter on it, also it is Vista , where the others are all WinXP. I know its better to have a Linksys with a Linksys wireless adapter but for now this will have to do.. I was having problems but I found out my problem could be because of my 2.4 cordless phone with I just replaced with a 6.0 phone.

I would like to install the update on the Vista one, would I have to delete the orginal install off of my husbands pc ?

Charlene

I'm lost, Are you trying to update the router? or just the network cards. If you're trying to update the firmware on the router use one of the wired systems.

ok, it's recomended that you use the wired system to do upgrades rather than the wireless. I don't see any problem running a Belkin adapter card with a linksys router either. I run all linksys, but only because I've never had a problem with quality from the company. I've connected other adapters (intel, kingston, netgear, etc) and never had connection problems.

Agree - also somewhat confused w/ your description - do you want to upgrade the 'firmware' of your current router (rather that purchase a new one)? If so and as already suggested, your router should be first attached to a 'wired' connection (not 'wireless' -can run into problems w/ WEP/WPA issues), then you can do whatever needed from there & worry about the other connections later - use the website recommendations of your router manufacturer for the updates desired - good luck -

I was able to update the linksys . I then add a 2nd pc and a laptop. Was really easy.

I then went to install the Belkin wireless 802.11g adapter on my new Gateway with Vista . I download from Linksys the program that lets you connect your wirelss. I then ran the Belkin disk that came with my adapter (bought months ago ) and when it told me to hook up the adapter, it doesnt connect (no blinking) . Not sure if I need to update the Belkin now. It ran fine with my WinXP
