Annoying message from Outlook Express...
Since downloading SP2, the issues causing problems seem to be mostly with Outlook Express. Trying to fix them one at a time.
When I log off of OE after doing email, a box appears every single time: 'To free up disk space, OE can compact messages, this may take a few minutes. Then the options are 'ok' or 'cancel'. I have looked at OE tools-options but there is nothing that speaks to permanently eliminating this message. Where else can I look? Thanks, Ora |

No I have enough space...
and would like the option of not doing this. I understand it's important to compact to run faster but would still like the option not to at this time.

See the information on this page. Scroll down a little for the paragraphs on compacting messages in OE.

Ofcourse there is a setting with which you can get rid of this popup message. its been long i used outlook express. so cant guide u exactly. but in windows mail ( vista supplement for OE ) - tools - options - advanced - maintenance and uncheck - 'compact database on shutdown ever' and there will be a setting. that setting might be too low for ya and hence this message at every log off. try searchin again now that you know what it might be. also tel me which version of outlook express do u use. so i can exactly find out the settings for your particular outlook express.

tools - options - maintenance - uncheck compact messages in the background.
Also the other thing could be is to tune the value for the setting - 'compact messages when there is [20] percent wasted space'. Increasing this value should help. either fo the two. tested for me. works. unless ofcourse SP2 has specifically caused any problem. in that case reinstalling OE would help. Ideally whenever you download a Service Pack, applications need to be reinstalled to avoid problems, though windows claims its not a problem .... |
