win/live sound

Hi,
i am using win.vista home premium.

Can anyone please help me. ifi use win live messenger i get no sound in or out , yet if i use paltalk i have no problem ,on messenger my sound seems to
feed back into my soeakers . As i cant seem to fild howto sort this out on vista ,. please can anyone put me in the right direction .
