A Few Questions for you:

1) Which Modem do you use? (brand - model)
2) Which ISP Service?
3) How do you connect? do u have to enter any username & password
and dial or does the modem do that for you?

You have mentioned that the modem is working fine? How did you determine that the modem is just working fine? Did you do any tests?

This error can come often during browsing if the main internet link coming from your ISP to the back of the modem is sending weak signals, probably because of deteriorated wiring over the time or many concurrent connections in the surrounding area.

It can hardly be a PC issue. very less possibility. when this error comes next time immediately have a look at the modem and see if all the link lights are blinking correctly. also immediately after u get this message, open a command prompt window and ping www.google.com. responses will prove that there is still connectivity and then this can be treated as a browser / pc issue but if soon after u get the message, you ping google and it says cannot find host - means the internet connection itself is failing every now and then.

1) Which Modem do you use? (brand - model)
... Scientific Atlanta , WebSTAR Cable Modem dpx100 series cable modem
2) Which ISP Service?
.....virginmedia (formally telewest)
3) How do you connect? do u have to enter any username & password
and dial or does the modem do that for you?
...i use ethernet, only thing i enter username/password for is to log onto pc, i have 1 acc set up for myself and another for kids

i assume my modem is working becoz all the lights are blinking as they should be,wen i check in network connections, its says local area network connected, when i get the webpage not found,i have tried links it gave me such as repair connection, but it cant renew my ip or wotever it does becoz i cant get online

ive also been in tools: network diagnostics and scanned, at the times i have been able to get online, unfortunatly i didnt write down the FAILED 1s,i will remember do so next time

100.0Mbps is always my speed on network diagnostics etc,
When i have these error pages yes the lights on my modem do still blink as working,
wot u said about pinging, wen i open the command prompt box do i just type
"www.google.com" ?

if u need more just ask, thanx for ur help so far

now 100.0 Mbps is not your internet speed. that is the default ethernet cable speed. its the quality of the cable and the max speed it can support which will always show - whether you have an internet connection or just a small office network where in all computers are connected to each other via ethernet cable.

yea next time when you get the message, open command prompt and type:

ping www.google.com

lemme explain step by step:

1) when you get that message: click on start - click on run
2) type cmd and click ok
3) you will get that typical black window which is the DOS / Command prompt
4) type ping www.google.com ( that is ping <space> www.google.com )
5) hit enter. if you get four responses and the statistics show 0% packet loss then its a browser or computer issue
6) but if ping response says: cannot find host or request timed out then the internet connection is breaking up intermittently

k, it just happened again,
So i pinged google and it came back

"ping request could not find host.please check the nameand try again"

in lamens terms (just for me) wot does this mean?

i never mentioned before, the way i resolve this problem at the mo is i turn off pc then switch off power at the mains for a min, then turn pc back on and i can then get online for a bit again

PS: and i said earlier in last post that i ran ntwork diagnostic to get that log, i should actually have wrote, wen i get the webpage error i clicked, DIAGNOSE CONNECTION PROBLEM (sory for misunderstandings)

Didnt I tell you earlier that you should ping and you are bound to get "cannot find host" or "request timed out".

this means the problem is with the internet connection or remotely the pc or the modem. i would suggest you contact your INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER Helpdesk and ask them if the modem has a firmware upgrade available.

they will also quickly run you through some steps like hard-reset of the modem which should be done only with their advice. if they are not ready to
help you then we will have to see whats to be done.

did you try a system restore just incase its not going to cause you any harm or if you have recently not installed any programs. it would be my first troubleshooting step though.

but yea first - CONTACT YR ISP!!! Fight a little. if no one is ready to help you completely and is passing the buck around - ask for a supervisor - the best on their floor with a great deal of tech knowledge. if you pay them, they might as well support you!!!

Sorry to join in on the post but I have got the same problem. I can only access web pages for about 30 - 60 seconds before I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". But when I right click on the local area network and select Repair it allows me to browse again but only for the same amount of time before I get the error again. I'm also pulling my hair out about this problem as it only started when I got back from holiday, I had switched off the PC and Modem (cable) and when I got back I had this problem. I have spoken to my provider and they reset my modem with no effect and have even replaced the modem but still I get the same problem. The annoying thing is that when I connected a laptop to my modem it did not have have the same problem.
Could it actually be the network card thats the problem?
Hope you dont mind me joining in on the post but I would love to know the out come.

hi scottish star can i first congratulate you on your footy result last night,we didnt do bad either (england).
anyway i also have virgin media and have encountered same problem on few occasions, when you installed the internet service from them did you also get the internet medic program which came free with it?,because that automatically resolves that issue at best of times.

A strange one but now sorted. Replaced network card and running a treat, strange as old network card worked on another provider but never mind happy once again. Thanks.
