online submission environment

Hi, I'm just embarking on the construction of a web-based community newspaper, with newspaper-style front page, blogs, forums, local buy-sell-exchange page... Ambitious.

I think that by now I've got a decent amount of PHP/MySQL to get cracking with the design of the database(s) and the CMS, but one thing that I'm going to want to have for the online article submissions and the forums (and possibly other places) is exactly the kind of environment that I'm typing in right now, and in which someone will hopefully soon reply to my post. Links, lists, bold/italics, font menus, quote-previous-contributor, pictures, smilies. Abracadabra - the lot .

Now, I'm assuming that this is mostly based on Javascript, but I'm really quite ignorant so far of Javascript (I just had a primary fiddle with it a year and a bit ago) and anyway I guess I need to know how that plugs in with PHP. So, what I'm asking is firstly for someone to please point me in the right direction to find the Javascript code that I'll be needing, or if I'm wrong about the Javascript connection please tell me where to look; and secondly to give me an idea of how it ties in with the PHP. If the two questions can be answered together in one place, that would be lovely. Thanks,

H

Hiya. Thanks for those. Errrm, for the sake of completeness, and possbily at the risk of complicating things, here's a link that I got from posting on another forum. This one leads to, well, basically more stuff than you need:
