Windows explorer opens in the users "my documents" folder by default. the executable is found in the winnt folder.

If you want to change the defualt folder that opens, then you need to change the path under the "opens in" option in the windows explorer properties page.

Sorry, my bad. Yes the start in is the same as open in. And the %homedrive%%homepath% is the path you need to change.Just remember whatever path you put in there is the folder that windows explorer will open at.

We seem to have a communication problem, I was under the impression you wanted to change the default location that windows explorer open to when it was started.

If you want to have windows explorer open everytime the computer starts, you just need to drag it into the startup folder in the start/programs menu.

I seem to have explained myself badly, windows explorer used to open in it's own folder, listing every file individually but now it doesn't ,opening it ,opens the my documents folder, but not showing individual files ,only blocks of folders are shown there,no individual files are there, only a couple of word files. So the actual explorer folder ,containing every file is somewhere, but where?

In essence, windows explorer now seems to open as "my documents" but not showing evry individual file.

Explorer.exe (windows explorer) doesn't have its own folder, the file is located in the windows/winnt(win2k/winxp) folder. Explorer.exe defaults to opening in the logged on users documents folder. It shows the files and subfolders in that location only. if your documents are located in a different folder they won't show up. Nor will they show up if the files have the hidden attribute set (unless you enable show hidden files/folders in the tools menu). You will need to do one of 2 things, either gather all your doc.files under one folder and then set explorer to "start in" that folder, or put all your doc. files in the "My documents" folder under your user login.
