i'm having problems with a server I just colocated. It will crash or freeze (stop pinging and disconnect) whenever I transfer heavy amounts of data (like over 100kb/sec) for more then a minute or two it crashes. It happends for all types of traffic, http/ftp/3rd party. It happends whether i'm logged in via terminal services or not. Also, overall performance sucks, internet is no more then 2mbps and raw lan is no more then 10-15mbps when it should be 100/100 for both. Nothing wierd happends when I transfer data, cpu and ram usage stay normal. It will just stop working. I know windows services don't work once it freezes also because I use prtg to monitor CPU usage-and it stops monitoring once the computer crashes after I lose connection.
Before I colocated it I was having 0 problems. Updates download quickly and easily on my 15mbps cable at home, no crashing. I ran memtest 7 times over on my ram to make sure it was ok (overnight) and full error checks on all hard drives, both OS and RAID drives. I had win xp media center on the machine for 4 months beforehand for basic usage as a backup computer and it had no problems.
It's quite mystereious. The computer works fine, can do heavy processing just nothing strenuous network wise. It has plenty of fans and it runs cool. When it crashes it gives no memory dump, no event in the log. Since I already sent it I can't see if theres a bsod or freeze or what not without paying for expensive kvm over ip time. I'd like to see if I can solve this remotely.
The nic is onboard nforce4. I had the latest drivers on it, I tried earlier drivers with no change.
Heres the specs:
