help

I bought an acer laptop a few months ago with vista, (unfortunately), at first it was pretty good, but recently it crashes nearly every time i use it. Usually it crashes when there is a web page with a lot to load or media like youtube. I can restart it and it will work ok, but still somewhat slow, it has a pentium dual core processor and 1 gb ram, so I know while its not incredible it should be working much faster and not crashing! I have been blaming vista for the slow performance but now since it crashes I don't know what to blame. As a result, I've been using my old desktop a lot, a dell celeron with 256 ram! of course it has xp and it is much more reliable and never crashes on me. What should i do for my laptop? Btw the screen it shows when it crashes is a blue screen "a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down...."
