Hi, I was getting help on this site for another problem however that CPU crashed for some reason. The CPU in question is only used as a mule but it has some files on it I would like to get back. Long story short, I am now getting a stop error on it as soon as I start it up. The kind with the blue screen that will not allow me to do much. I will gladly say what specific error I am gettin however I am just wondering if there is a process I can follow to at least get into the browser. The OS is Windows 2000 pro. Much appreciated!

Hi Chris, could you be a little more specific about the stop error. Does is give any codes or name a file that is associated the error? Does this error come before or after you reach the login screen? Have you tried safe mode? If you just need to get some files of the drive you could yank from the failing system and put it another machine and get your files....

Thanks for helping. The exact stop error I am getting is: Stop: 0x0000007B and I get it right after the system starts loading. The safe mode options I have are standard, with networking, and with command prompt. When I try all of them however it runs the files and the the error screen comes up again. I would prefer to get into the browser but if thats not possible then I guess I will have to pull it out like you said. Is there anything I can do?

Hi Chris, if you take a look at this microsoft page:http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&form=MSHOME&setlang=en-US&q=Stop%3A+0x0000007B&x=0&y=0
that error seems to point towards a problem with the drive or the controller. Other than yanking the drive as suggested earlier you could try a live Linux cd. You boot of that cd and it loads a functional desktop where you should be able to access your hard drive as you would with windows. I would recommend Knoppix. Just do a google for knoppix live cd and you should get a bunch of hits on where you can download the iso from.......

Thanks I'll try that and get back to you to see if it worked.
