Heere it is:

After downloading two programs and deleting one with the package manager for Ubuntu, and then uploading the 81 updates for it, Arklinux, which I already had on the same computer and which was working fine, up and died on me.

After the uploading, I had to restart the computer, and decided to do the same job for Arklinux in the meanwhile when it just seized up. It started loading, and then the picture spun around like a TV with the horizontal control off, and the monitor indicator flashed yellow and red, something I never saw before. I had to shut down to get back Ubuntu; Arklinux is dead.

All of this was after I got "pointer" errors when trying to restart; I have no idea where that came from, though it stopped doing that when I pulled out the ethernet connection temporarily.

Is this an anomaly? How would I remove Arklinux because it is just dead? I would replace it with some other distribution, as there weren't any interesting applications and it would not drive my wireless card.

No, this is not an anomaly, its the result of a faulty update. If you just want to remove Arklinux, delete the partition. You can use something like the gparted live-cd to delete Arklinux and move the free space to your Ubuntu partition. Or, you could install a different distribution over the Arklinux partition.

Whatever you do, be sure you are erasing/overwriting the Arklinux partition, and not the Ubuntu partition.
