need more info, like when are you getting the error message, at the start, middle or end of the install? Did the computer originally come with vista? Give more info as to the xp cd you are using. Is it an upgrade, full version or oem from another computer?

When you start the computer press F10 key to initialize the BIOS setting. Find out for option to Enable or Disable Native SATA Support. Surely it is Enable in your system, just Disable it and all done.

Now you can install Xp.

Howdy:

Are you pressing F6 when prompted to install the SATA controller?

Have you checked to make sure there are XP drivers available for your system?

Do you realize that by installing XP you are probably writing off any warranty you may have on a brand new system?

for driver info, go to hp's website see if they have xp drivers in their drivers section for your specific model.
