File sharing, Samba, Ubuntu, Windows XP

OK, so before I reinstalled Ubuntu, file sharing worked fine, now it does not.

Samba is installed, updated, and running, and a have a folder on the XP machine with a folder shared. That shared folder can be seen by other Windows computers on my network just fine, but when I try to view it in Ubuntu, it sees the workgroup, the computer name, even the share name, but when i click the share, I get an error, "the folder contents could not be displayed"

I have looked at my smb.conf and the workgroup name is correct in there, and all other settings were left at default and appear to be correct.

With a shared folder on Linux in my /home/gimpy530 directory, I can go to windows, start - run - \\192.168.1.147\gimpy530

That will pop up a log in box, which niether my user name and pass, nor root work in

Everything worked before I reinstalled, any ideas?

oh, and I do have something installed that allows me to read and write to NTFS drives, so that shouldn't be the problem

Ubuntu: 192.168.1.147
XP: 192.168.1.150

I never manually installed that the first time I did this, but anyway, "sudo apt-get install smbfs" installed it, then I rebooted since some update was complaining about it anyway. After the reboot, I tried to access that share and I get the same error.

woot, I messed with my smb.conf and such, and I was able to get Ubuntu to see a shared folder on an XP computer.......I wasn;t able to get that XP to see a share on Ubuntu, but I didn't mess with it much.......and now it seems another XP computer won't share anything to any computer, even though a few weeks ago that was working fine....damnit, more crap I have to fix
