Hello,
Having bought a new computer running windows vista home premium when it comes to checking my email i now have to restart the computer every time.
When you first turn the computer on and open windows mail it downloads new messages as normal but when i come to either check for new mail or send new mail it just comes up with the dialog box asking you to either wait or stop the requested process( timeout) BE THIS 1 MINUTE OR TEN MINUTES depending on what settings you use. ( it says your POP3 server has not responded , do you want to wait etc etc)
I've tried to reinstall windows mail, checked all my settings with tiscali and they seem fine.
As i've said if i restart the computer it then downloads straight away but for one time only
Is this a problem with my server or windows mail??
thanks
Nick

It sounds like a problem with your ISP's server Nick.
I've tried to reinstall windows mail, checked all my settings with tiscali and they seem fine.
Did you ask Tiscali to check your connection?

Been in touch with tiscali tech help, got a new modem from them which helped for a few days, but the problem is now still present also many other problems with vista
1. Com Surrogate keeps on closing
2. Explorer keeps on closing i tried to download the windows update to fix this problem and had to restore windows completely as the computer froze completely on startup
I was wondering if i've been infescted by a virus or something?

It doesnt sound like a malware issue however I would like to see a couple of logs please.
Lets see what is running on your PC. Go here (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/hijackthis.php?) and download Hijack This to your Desktop. When you have downloaded it, doubleclick to install. Once installed, open Hijack This and click on scan. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.
Still using Hijack This, click on Config > Misc Tools > Open Uninstall Manager and click on Save List. Save the log to your Desktop and then post it in this thread too.

The good news is that it is unlikely that your problem is malware related Nick. Your Hijack This log is fine and I dont really think we need to delve any further.
Ok, one step at a time. Let try and address the COM Surrogate Has Stopped Working Error in Vista first. Have a look here (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fix-for-com-surrogate-has-stopped-working-error-in-vista/) and work your way through the suggestions. Let me know if any work for you. This will probably address the Explorer error too.

The good news is that the fix for com surrogate has seemed to have worked no problem. I still have the problem with internet mail also when i restart and enter my username/password it takes approx 7 minutes to load windows ?? Before all this it took less than a minute? Do you need any file logs to see if the configuration has changed at all?

Hmm, I'm wondering if third party software might be causing the problem. As security software has a reputation for causing these kind of issues, the obvious culprit would be Tesco Internet Security. Do you have the reinstall disk and product key still? If so, why not uninstall it from Programs and Features in Control Panel and reboot. You can always reinstall it if this makes no difference. let me know how you get on.
