I keep hearing all of these things about Linux, and some people like it more than Windows. I was just wondering if I should try it out? I know nothing...nothing about Linux, and if you guys can give me some info, that would be nice. I'm reading about it right now...
Also, will it give me better performance on games? Such as Day of Defeat: Source? Guild Wars, Oblivion... So, I might try out Linux soon, and I would like your help, I would like to try Dual-Botting XP Pro and Linux (Ubuntu?) |

If your curious give it a shot. It's free so you don't have anything to loose. If you are going to dual boot it would be a good idea to back up your data first, just in case something goes wrong.
Ubuntu would be a good choice to start with. I just installed opensuse 10.3 on my test box and the install was easy and staightforward so it might be worth a look too. I haven't done anything on it yet though so can't comment on any more than the install though. I wouldnt get to excited about gaming on linux. In most cases the games run better on windows, if you can even get them to run on linux. But I am not a gamer so I may not be the best person to comment on that.

Windows games will not run on Linux without additional software installed. You'll need a Windows emulator like WINE;
http://www.winehq.org/ WINE will allow you to run "some" Windows games. Check the list from the link above to see if your game is listed. Your best bet is to install a dual boot set-up. Then you'll have the option of which system you want to run. A word of advice: Do Your Homework before attempting to set up a dual boot. Here's a tutorial to get you started: http://apcmag.com/6101/dualboot_windows_xp_and_ubuntu There are many tutorials for dual booting. Read a few before you begin. Good luck and have fun. ![]() Like JoeC says; Don't forget to back up your data before you start.

give it a try, you do not have to install it to test it out, all you need is to download and burn the iso to cd or dvd (depending upon the distro) and boot to it. It will do just about anything that way.
here is a good one to try. this one is good also
