I have a dell dimension 4100 desktop computer with Windows 2000 (based on NT). When i boot it up it says starting windows. After doing that it goes to a fullscreen page that says starting windows 2000. It does this for about a minute then goes to a smaller screen that says starting up. Then after a while it says preparing network connections. After that it says applying security settings and after about 4 minutes totall it goes to the log-in screen. Any suggestions? This computer came out of a college and i dont know what they set it to do at startup!!

Boot the computer, during the boot proccess (just prior to the windows loading screen), press the F8 key on your keyboard, that will bring up the windows boot menu allowing you boot to safe mode.

The bad thing is that windows 2000 is not installed with a utility called (msconfig). Uncle Bill didn't see the need for it for some reason. ;)
You can add it manually. Do a google for msconfig.exe, download it to your winnt\system32 folder (don't need to insall anything) you can then run it from the runbox on the start menu.
