Question Trying to get myself onto google.

Hello again CTH

I've just made a site for my motorcycle training business and i want to appear on google. I made my site with fasthosts and it looks alright, but how do i get it to appear in search engines without paying loooads for ads?

Here's my site http://www.southamptoncbt.co.uk

Ideally what i'd like is to search for Motorcycle Training in Southampton
on google (UK), and for my site to be at the top. Currently i find my competitor at the top, on 'googlemaps'... perhaps this is the way foward? Or is the whole googlemaps-at-the-top a temporary thing?

On my site builder i have a section designed to improve searches for each page. It has Browser Page Title, Description Meta Tag, and Key Word Meta Tag.

If i put too much stuff in each of these does it lower the strength of each keyword?

I'm a complete noob on all this, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

theatty

Hi theatty,

You have to work hard on SEO ( onpage optimization+off page optimization )
I have gone through your site and found that you have not optimize your pages properly
After getting around your source code, i found and will suggest you to add a proper Title, Meta Description, Meta Keywords, anchor text for interlinking, use proper keywords within your contents etc for each page.
Regarding off-page optimization " Try to get backlinks from other motorcycle related sites, or from sports related sites (i mean from relevant sites ). you can try link exchange, directory submission, forum posting etc....
Also try to have different title tags ,h1 tag for all of your pages, you don't have for inner pages.

For getting your site at top you should add fresh content at your site. You know Google love to eat fresh meat.
I will suggest you not to just concentrate on single keyword but try to top most related keywords for your site and try to top all of them so that you will get good traffic.

You can ref Google or just visit SEO section our blog at blog.webhosting.uk.com/uk-website-hosting/seo-articles/
Hope this will help you.

I have no idea what each of these things are. I have used a builder for the site, i'm not a great coder. Could you elaborate?

This site was published last night, so it's brand spankers atm, i understand the whole link think, i'm going to swap a load of links with all our contacts in the industry. So i guess that's a start, i understand the more time my link appears on related and high-reputed sites the higher i will appear on search engines...

Oh and by the way, what's this next bit mean?

Thanks for the quick reply

If you are curious about the google map listing at the top of the search result, see HERE and HERE.

Yahoo has a similar offering, see HERE

Also, from what Google ahs said and from what I have seen, Google is putting less and less stock on keywords and meta tags and more on the page content. But, I don't do web design for a living, so I may be off base.

See if this helps:

http://www.google.com/addurl/

http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/dir/su...uggest-01.html

It can take weeks/months before the search engines improve your rating.

The following may help you improve your website:

http://www.sitereportcard.com/

To view the source code just open your website, right click and left click view source. It will open in notepad. What Andy is referring to is situated at the top.

Google has an article that has condensed the SEO basics into a single page packed with relevant info.

I will suggest you not to submit your sites are different SE rather submit it at different high rated Directories as DMOZ, most SE uses data from such directories, let's invite SE's by getting links from highly reputed sites which are crawled every now and then.

If you have many quality backlinks surely your site will get crawl faster and will get index.
For Google " Content is the King and Links are Queens "
