Lightbulb Mandrake/XP dual boot??

Hi everyone,

I recently installed mandrake 8.2 on a pc that already uses XP Pro.

The problem is now everytime that I boot up the computer it gives me the option of booting linux or window NT, but i dont have this. When I push NT it goes to a screen that says please insert boot disks.

How can I get the PC to recognize the XP os and give me the option to put with it.

Please Help
Thanks
Paul

Howdy proko123

You need to edit your file called /etc/lilo.conf, then run lilo.

But before you charge into this please thoroughly read your Mandrake documentation on lilo.

Hope this helps.

And for those of us using Slackware or Lycoris? Is it the same... any tips on using lilo? Is there a post in here somewhere that you deal with it extensively?

Abremilyn, in Lycoris (possibly similar in Slackware), open the Control Centre (Flower>System Management>Control Centre)
Open "Advanced System Settings"
Open "Boot Loader"
Enter the root password
That'll give you a GUI to add and edit boot loader options.

Alternatively, from Control Centre, click "Classic Control Centre"
Which will open the old fashioned KDE control centre.
System Settings>Boot Loader
Click the Modify button and enter the root password.

Click "Add Other"
Label it.
Pick the partition that holds Win XP boot record.

Alternatively, try using a third party boot loader that specifically supports XP.
Remember XP (and 2000) are built on Microsoft NT kernel so Linux may recognise them as NT.
I use XOSL but I don't know if it will support XP as I haven't got it..
