a freind of mine has an Advent T9402 he got from pc world a couple of years ago and i was asked if i could update his bios for him. The bios is showing as Pheonix Award version 6PG. having tried everything to get him an update (without success). I was wondering if we could pull the chip and install a better version on his mobo. The version he has is basically S%*T you can't control anything in there ie. memory timings, voltages...... He is willing to buy new bios from pheonix award but is sceptical that he will end up with the same version he already has.
any help aprecciated

You can buy a new BIOS chip. I've used http://www.biosman.com/ in the past, although there are other places to buy from.

And a place I've used:

I was under the impression that changing the BIOS chip (with a different version or manufacturer) wouldn't agree with the northbridge?

I wasn't talking about using a different one. Badflash can replace with same BIOS chip on most motherboards.

A different version of the same type of BIOS for that computer is what he wants Oracle. Meaning updated version, not different type.
If you contact badflash, they will sell you an updated version of your friend's BIOS. I can't answer for the one zipulrich posted as I've never used them.
