To the linux people here. I have a decission to make and want to get the answer to my question from people who use linux everyday. I am either going to do Raid1 dual boot or just install linux on it's own HD but I will figure that one out later.
Which linux Distro would be best for me to use the openSUSE 10.3 or Ubuntu 7.10? I have messed a round with the Ubuntu Live CD but that doesn't really mean much because I never learned anything about it since you really can't install and run things that way. Plus with the Live CD it might as well be Windows because of that factor. All help and all opinions will be welcomed and appreciated.

since we dont know your system, we dont know what drivers you may need, we dont know what features you need, the best way is to install both of them and decide for yourself which one you like the best.

I have used both in the past. Both are good. the biggest difference is microsoft has suse in its back pocket so they have contractual control over suse and what it offers.

What do you mean that Microsoft has suse in it's back pocket? If you click on my username and click view profile you can see my one of my systems. The one I will be putting it on is the same except it has a Opteron 148 CPU and a 7900GT KO and 2- 80GB HD's. Everything else is the same.

first of all you completely missed the point about not knowing your system. We cannot tell you base on what you have. We would have to have the exact same system with the exact same printer, monitor, webcam and such to know which one would work best for you. There are differences between distros so I have to repeat, the only real way to know which will work for your specific system is for you to install both and see which one works the best for you. since both are free, the only cost will be time.

See this about microsoft (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20061108-8178.html)

I think Ubuntu has a better driver support base than SuSE and that alone would make things easier for you. I've upgraded from Ubuntu 7.04(Fiesty Fawn) to Ubuntu 7.10(Gutsy Gibbon)recently and am pleased with the lastest version. If you plan on using a printer check to be sure your printer is supported by the distro you choose. Most HP printers are supported, some others are not. Good luck, and have fun. :)

I just wanted to know the easiest one to use. Why does Microsoft have to get into everything, don't they have enough money? Microsoft's lawyer's will find a way a round the agreement to try and stop their competition.
I checked and Ubuntu 7.10 does have the printer driver for my HP Photosmart 8250 printer so I am going with Ubuntu.
I Have one major question before installing it. Since I have the live CD can I install XP then use the live CD to install it? Will I have to partition the HD before I install XP or can I do it after with the Live CD? I have never dual booted or installed any partitions before so I just need to know this before installing. My extra HD's will be here tomorrow so I will be doing the install on Tuesday.:D
