Program Function Problem T20

IBM T20/12GB (11 used)/128MB RAM/Win 98 SE:

When I start only certain programs (Cammedia Master Picture Editor, MS Outlook, IE Explorer, Norton AVirus, the program opens to a white screen and some or all of the options are not there.

For example, I open IE, the browser won't connect (no physical connection problem)and Internet Tools does nothing (the choice depresses normally but nothing happens though IE does not lock up); I open Norton System Works and the whole thing works great EXCEPT for Norton AntiVirus, which does nothing when I choose "Scan for Viruses." It just ignores me. Word, Quicken, etc. work fine.

I have run all Norton Optimizations except Norton Avirus. Since I cannot run this from the C: drive, I ran it from the Norton CD ROM. It found no virus, but I should note the CD's virus definitions are not up to date, of course.

I suspect a virus, but could it be something else? Is there a way to to an updated virus scan without being able to get online?

Any other ideas?

Dave.

Hi dmack61066

If you have access to another win98 computer that is online
and has an UP TO DATE Norton AV on it.
You can create a set of Rescue Disketts and run them
on your computer.

Okay, I downloaded Norton AVirus rescue disks and scanned the c drive with up to date virus checkers. No virus found. I then used configsafe to "go back" thirty days on the drive's configuration and that doesn't help either.

Does anyone have any ideas. The problem is occurring across multiple programs. Significantly, AOL now has an error "Cannot load ebrowser.dll."

Hi dmack61066,
I'm not sure if this will help but I get a similar problem like yours when I have my WindowBlinds on. It's a skinning program that sometimes gets rid of menu options. Hope it helps. Good luck.

You could try reinstalling AOL to try and
get online.
If you can, You may want to update or
reinstall Internet Explorer.
