Want a New video card! HELP

Alright, my birthday is on November 2nd, and I'm thinking of getting COD 4 and a video card for my comp!

I don't want to get a new computer till Starcraft 2, so I just want a video card that will last me until then, and I want to be able to play Rome Total War without LAG!

Here's my specs-
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254)

If you need anything else, just tell me, but I'm trying to get a good video card at a cheap price.

I'm looking at newegg and tigerdirect, but I don't know crap about all this 7200 Duel GB blah blah blah!

So, can you reccommend a good gaming video card under $50~60?

I don't need uber graphics, Rome TW is a pretty old game, but I might want to try some other old RTS too, so I need something good but not UBER HIGH END.

Oh, and I have a PCI express port, that's where the video card would go right....?

$50 - 60
you are looking at low end
Geforce 8400GS
crappest current gen card

even with the card i think you would have trouble playing COD4
you are running a sempron 2800, which is pretty slow
you have 448MB RAM (512MB when you get the new card) thats quite small, today its just enough for windows XP SP2 to run smoothly, and to run not many other programs
dont expect anything spectacular when playing COD4 on your system

Just looked at the system requirements
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.4 GHz or AMD(R) Athlon(TM) 64 2800+ processor or any 1.8Ghz Dual Core Processor or better supported
512MB RAM (768MB for Vista)
NVIDIA(R) Geforce(TM) 6600 or better or ATI(R) Radeon(R) 9800Pro or better

you might be able to just run it, on lowest settings and it would probably still lag due to CPU, RAM and maybe with the new graphics card as the 6600 is faster than the 8400

well it runs just fine on my systems. so a 7600 or higher 7 series card will do you fine. in fact, the demo looks spectacular on both the specs i have in my sig. The problem you will have then is low amount of ram, sempron 2800, and bottelnecks with a newer video card and low amounts of ram.

No, I'm getting COD 4 for PS3, not PC. I just want a card that will be able to play Rome total war, Midieval war II, and maybe some Age of Empires.

So it's an NVDIA GEforce 8400 GS? Would that be compatible with PCI express?
