Java Help

when i try to install the new java pack i get the message "this installation package can not be opened. verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package." i have windows 2000 and i just recently got my computer wiped clean so i dont know if this affected my computer any way, but i really need java to run many other programs and i just cant get any java download to work for me...I also have this problem with a few other downloaded programs.

Have you installed sp4 yet? you may also need to upgrade the MSI program from Microsoft.

MSI is the windows installer (used to be known as the installshield wizard).

Back to your problem, the latest java package (from Sun Microsystems) requires windows 2000(sp4) + mozilla 1.4 or IE 5.5 to be installed.
If you still get an error trying to install, make sure your account has admin rights, and that you've downloaded the correct version of Java. the only other thing I can think of is that you have a corrupted download. Did you dl the program from Sun Microsystems website? If not try DL it from there.
