need to keep restarting windows explorer

hi, I have an external hard drive but recently every time i try to view the folders im told that windows explorer needs to be shut down it also gives me a choise as to wether I want to send an error report or not and a debug option (which does nothing to help the problem) the two error signatures i get are

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00010de3

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName: bicubic_resizer.ax
ModVer: 1.3.0.0 Offset: 00001469

i dont get them at the same time but its generaly a completly random order
If anyone has any idea of how to fix this i would be very greatfull
