Angry Why my web site does not show properly on some computers?

I have made a homepage using Microsoft Frontpage and uploaded to the internet. My computer shows the homepage all right, but on other computer some of the lines are not in their place or some of the links does not link.

Could any one, please , tell me why? And if I should have used other softwares to make my homepage?

your help is really appreciated .

naturally if people use different font size its going to break up your tables, so utilize CSS and get rid of tables with the div command. Have you made sure the hyperlinks are relative and not "C:\documents and settings\.......".

frontpage is okay but it will have problems with other browsers and anything non microsoft.

If you have the money give dreamweaver a try, otherwise you need to learn html and css.

I used ms frontpage for about five years in the past and used it only as a wysiwyg editor. I usually had to manually edit any pages I created with it to work in most browsers and did not use fp extensions. If you decided to continue using frontpage, I would suggest downloading and installing all the major browsers to see how the pages look and to avoid using any features that requires extensions.

Also you need to look at the pages with different browser window sizes to see if it still looks good.

One other thing, Microsoft will no longer update Frontpage so you may need to move on if you continue to require editors to help you with your pages.

You make it sound like there's only two such programs, which is totally inaccurate!

well then instead of griping about what I have written how about you mention the other possible programs that will possibly work and help this person instead of wasting our time.

I'm quite sure this person can do a little research in finding such programs out there, rather than wasting his/her money!

Shawn,

Your problem is the basic issue with web design entirely. You can not control how the user is viewing your page at any time. The best you can do is research how to create sites that are more flexible. Then try and design as flexible as possible and realize that it's a rare thing for someone to see your site exactly as you see it. The best you can hope for is "close".

That being posted, Microsoft FrontPage is probably the worst thing you can use to create web pages. It litters the code with a great deal of unnecessary elements and generally makes for poor flexibility.

Dreamweaver is okay, but again it's not 100% perfect and given it's price is often out of reach for many.

GoLive (the other big boy on the block) is about as competent as Dreamweaver and just as expensive. In addition, like Frontpage, GoLive can create some proprietary code that works with it, but is generally more than what's needed and simply adds to page size (kb).

There are many free or near free applications to create web pages. But all will take some time to learn. In addition, it's important you know basic html (And CSS if possible) to help you create a good, solid page. On the PC check out NVU, on the Mac check out Rapidweaver. Then take a gander at www.webmonkey.com for some of their basic tutorials if you aren't familiar with HTML.

Which lines Shawn?

I would ditch the elements of the page which require Vector Graphics Rendering, myself. That might be your problem.
