DVD Drives don't show up on Send To

Hello,

I recently installed 2 new Lite-On DVDRW LH-16W1P.

They work perfectly I have no complaints and they show up on "My Computer" as Copact Disc (E) and (F) but they don't show up on the "Send To" file list if I right click on a file I want to burn to disc.

The "Send To" shows the floppy, desk top, mail recipient and my documents.

How do I get it to allow me to send to the Compact Disc.

Thanks,
Eddie

That's because your operating system doesn't have built in DVD burner software. You can't drag and drop like on Vista. You need standalone burner software and still will only be able to add files the old fashioned way.

So what do I have to do to fix the problem because the computer originally came with a DVD burner and a DVD/CD player and I had them changed to 2 DVD Burners.

You need a standalone software like Nero or Easy Creator to burn dvds in either windows 2000 or XP. Only Vista has the built in DVD burning software.

Your drive didn't come with software?

Yes I have software and there is nothing wrong with burning I can use the editing software and burn a DVD just fine.

The problem is if I want to save a file and send it to the Disc drive to place on a CD or DVD niether Disc unit shows up in the "Send To" list!

To be able to use send to on cd/dvd burners, you'll need packet writing software running, (direct cd, incd, etc). then just open your send to folder (you'll find it under documents and settings/ %user% folder) right click the dvd burner icon and drag it to the folder. It will then show up in your send to list.

btw you'll need to have show hidden files and folders enabled to see the send to folder in explorer.

Like MaDef said, you need the packet writing software. I went to bed and didn't get here til now. But the reason I didn't suggest that before is because packet writing software does give problems using it and on your computer in general.

Thats why I don't use it anymore, it's easier (fewer hassles) just burning a standard cdrw or dvdrw.
