Hi, I hope this is in the right place as I wasnt sure.

Well I really love making music videos, I have made some with a PC game called The Movies but I mostly used The Sims 2.
Well it isnt easy using the sims 2, custom content often ruins my game play causing lag which upsets me. I want to create things that are beyond my windows movie maker software and stroppy sims that take ages to do what you want.

Does anyone know Of software where you can make movies? I am looking for realistic looking people not cartoon as I want to make serious films, or music videos with great sets, props and with all this it cannot be really advanced or at least easy to get used to.

I dream of finding this type of software, I am so keen to work hard making many films/videos, I am sorry to ask a difficult question I hope you can help? If it is free be even better as I am broke but I guess good ones will not be free?

I await your helpful appreciated replies THANKS XX

What you want to do is essentially replicate a Hollywood 3D animated production. Like the recent wave of Disney movies, or something even more realistic like Final Fantasy Spirits Within, or Lord of the Rings, or The Golden Compass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/His_Dark_Materials:_The_Golden_Compass). You do realize that these take millions of dollars in resources, and years of experience, and whole teams of staff to produce. You cannot just load up some software and start making movie magic. Unfortunately the world does not work like that.

3D Studio Max, Maya, Lightwave, or the free (inferior) alternative Blender. These are 3D animation packages that you can maybe get started on. Unless you go to college/university to learn them, and devote all your free time to practising them, you will never even get close to doing what you're talking about.

I say, stick to machinima (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machinima). Just because you're working with the less-realistic graphics of Half Life 2 (via Gmod), Quake IV, Company of Heroes, F.E.A.R. etc, doesn't mean you can't make serious movies. Seriousness is in the script, the story, the music, the emotion - not the graphics. If the setting of the game doesn't suit your story, learn to create models for it - you'd have to do this anyway if you were starting from scratch with a 3D animation package, but you get a free pre-built set of engines (graphics, physics, animation) with it.
