I have some .avi files.

At work I play them and only get sound but at home I can't play them. I have the latest version and no updates are available. I have tried using videolan but get told the files are broken. klcodec doesn't help either.

I tried burning them to dvd with nero but they can't be added.

Is there a problem with the file or my media players?

probably down to your comp not having the correct codec.
download vlc player and see if you can watch the files then,

I have tried VLC but it says the files are broken. Though at work they play fine.

I have downloaded windows media player 10 times and after the download I try and use it and my computer says it does not exist even though it just went through a download of it. Even real player shows to download but it can't be used either so how do I fix these problems?

I have tried VLC but it says the files are broken. Though at work they play fine.

Although they are AVI files they might be compressed using DIV X and/or X VID codecs.

Install the latest DIV X and X VID codecs and see if that fixes things.

Download DIVX from DIVX.com
