A few days ago i noticed a fewa random characters dotted about on myspace, knowing the naturing of myspace i just presumed it was yet another fault, then a pop up told me it told me an add on "RDS.DataSpace" needed to be enabled, i was unsure of what to do, so thinking i could always return and enable it via the add-on section closed this, i carried on as normal, until i went to go on a forum i am on and noticed the entire page was random characters, as shown here:
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/5812/internetwt2.jpg

then i noticed that other sites were also like this (most noticable my university portal/area which i need for my course)
I ran a virus & spyware scan and rebooted this did nothing, I then enabled the add on and restarted, nothing, disabled and restarted, yes you've guessed it nothing, i eventually succumbed to defeat and used a system restore point to 2 days earlier, but now 2 days after restoring, the problem has reoccured again, this time when it asked me to enable the add-on i did, but still the same happened.

I have also tried installing firefox and it has the exact same problem, i restored internet explorer to factory settings but still have the same problems.

My friend seems to think it is a code exploit however i cannot seem to find any security updates that deal with such a problem other than for earlier versions of windows.

I'd be greatily appreciative if anyone can anyone help shed even the tiniest bit of light on the situation as I am entirely baffled.

thanks

Welcome to CTH lukosis. Lets see what is running on your PC. Go here (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/hijackthis.php?) and download Hijack This to your Desktop. When you have downloaded it, doubleclick to install. Once installed, open Hijack This and click on scan. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Also go here (http://www.silentrunners.org/) and download Silent Runners.vbs (clicking the the download link works if you use IE. If you use FireFox, rightclick on the link and choose "Save Link As") to a new folder on your drive and run it. It generates a log too. It takes a minute or two and it will notify you with a popup when your log is ready (it will be in the new folder you created). Please post the information back in this thread. If your antivirus program queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious.
