can't immunize in Spybot

Hi all,

When I try to immunize in Spybot S&D, a window pop up: "You are missing administrator rights to perform this action. If you need to do this, please run this application elevated as an administrator." My account is an administrator account so is there some kind of setting I have to change? I am running Vista Home Premium.

Much appreciated,
dduc

That's probably just as well dduc. If I were you, I would uninstall Spybot. I dont know if the bug in it has been fixed but the Immunize feature caused problems with Windows Mail and broke it.

I installed spybot a few days ago....did the immunization thing. Should just uninstall or do a restore within spybot first?

Cheers

I uninstall and reinstalled but the same thing. Is there an alternate program that you'd recommend? Thanks.

Sure. AVG AntiSpyware does a good job. Click on the link in my signature (how to help prevent reinfection) for a download link and more information.

Thanks, AnnMarie, I have AVG running now. And I think I found the fix for the immunization problem. Control Panel>Programs>under Programs and Features click on
"Use an older program with this version of Windows" Everything after that is pretty straight forward. That seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the all the responses : )

Thanks dduc but we dont recommend the use of Spybot here. There are other far more efficient programs that we would prefer to recommend. Unfortunately, Spybot seems to cause more problems than it fixes.

Ok, I'll uninstall S&D then. Is Windows Defender a good replacement? Is AdAware recommended? Which program would you recommend?

stalechips2000, Thanks, I think I'll give my isp a call about that.
