I am trying to run 2 computers though my netgear wgt624v3 router. My Hp a350y has no problem with a connection, but my alienware will not connect. Also able to get a connect on my wireless laptop.

I tried connecting the alienware computer straight from the modem with no connection either.

The alienware was given to me by a friend who recently reformatted it.

i ran "ipconfig /all" in cmd and on the alienware, it did not have an ip address, no dhcp. Could this be the problem?

Please, any help on this matter would be great. I'm not too computer savy either, just some of the basic is all i know

Plug the router into the Alienware then go Into the device manager under "Network Adapters" and see if you have a Yellow? or !. It sounds as if the eithernet controller isn't picking up the signal so it might not be installed or just need the drivers installed.

there is no yellow ? or !. it says "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC"

*edit* I did it on my Hp and there was a second icon under Network Adapter. there was what i posted above and "1394 Net Adapter" could that be what i am missing from my alienware?

There should be a network adapter but It depends on the MB what type of adapter it has. If you have a Disk that came with the MB or a restore disk that might have came with the Alienware the adapter might be on it.
