Acer Travelmate? Ethernet not working properly?

Hey, I'm living on campus in a college and for the past 24hours my Acer Travelmate 2480 has not been working properly-- with regards to the internet. The way it works in my dorm is that: there is no wireless, so I need to use an ethernet cable to connecto the internet. For several weeks whenever I return into my dorm and plug the cable into the slot I'd get internet within a few seconds. Over the weekend when I returned and plugged the cable in my Acer wouldn't pick up any of the available connections on campus.

On the acer it doesn't work, so I took out my 2003 iBook and within just a plug of the cable my iBook automatically connects to the internet. What is wrong with my Acer? Is it possible the ethernet card is messed up?

any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it! :((

I would need to know your IP address maybe you are set up to static addresses which you need to be dynamic to gain access to the network. It could have been disabled. There could have been alot of problems it is possible it may be going dead. Try this plug it in go to run type ipconfig /release then type ipconfig /renew. If this does not work then please type ipconfig /all and post it on here so we can further help you.
