How do i password protect my usb drive under Vista Home Premium.I have Portable Apps installed on this drive with Thunderbird,Firefox,exc,and would like to password protect this drive in case i lose it.I tried to do this using permissions and locked myself out of the drive alltogether.The drive is 1gb ready boost compatible.my computer=32b vista home premium,pentium 4,250gb hd,2gb ram.thanks.:curse:

depending on your usb drive, usually they come with software on a cd or preloaded on the drive that enables data encryption and other security features. if yours came with a cd check whats on it or if not then goto the manufactures website and see if they offer a security program for it to download. if all else fails search google for some 3rd party usb flash drive security programs which probably need installed on the usb drive and your pc and if after that the drive gets lost/stolen and someone trys to access the drive without the program installed on there pc and know the password they won't be able to access the drive. which is what I believe your looking to accomplish.

If not already done, I would check the web sites of Portable Apps (http://portableapps.com/apps) & the USB drive's manufacturer to determine if a security program(s) is offered, either already installed or one that can be easily added - good luck in your search! :happy:
