How do i make a partition with windows 2000.

You need to be a little more specific. Are we talking before or after the os is installed? If before then you would boot off the windows 2000 cd and follow the the screens until you get to the part that ask you which partition to install to then you may partition your drives as you please. If windows is already installed then you would go to administrative tools then computer management then disk management. The rest should be self explanatory.

i tried the disk managment but couldnt find out how to shrink the main volume to make room for another partition.

Ah, Well now that's a whole different ball of wax. You'll need third party software like partition magic or acronis disk manager to resize a partition. But be aware if you have any valuable data on your original partition you had better back it up before you go and start messing around with it. Just in case
